A long time coming

I have always seen the internet as a way to build connections. As a teenager, I blogged about my life on xanga. I used the xanga community to learn about music, books, art, and fashion, and to connect with other people who shared those interests. I still maintain many of my xanga friendships to this day. As a transient adult, I have continued using social media to stay in contact with friends from my many homes. Additionally, I have built connections through online groups surrounding interests such as feminism, fashion, and of course, dogs.

I have blogged privately through tumblr over the past several years, but whenever I considered public blogging, I made excuses: "i don't write well enough", "no one will read it", and a host of other thoughts that amounted to generally not viewing myself as good or important enough.

So here I am, finally giving myself the space to be heard, to be seen, to be important enough. I hope this blog will help me to meet other interesting people in my new st. louis home, to connect with people who share my interests, and to celebrate of all the things that make my life wonderful.
